In terms of urban development potential, the area surrounding the Areitbahn valley station is one of the most valuable areas in Zell am See. In the wake of a slew of urban changes over the past few years, the district of Schüttdorf is looking for a new centre which can be created in the most frequented place.
The hotel building is divided into three bold structures which are positioned together to form an ensemble protruding from a single base. At a central square facing the mountain, an intricate canopy is designed which acts as a covered market or central meeting point and communicative centre.
The three structures are finished in coloured exposed concrete. A two-and-a-half-dimensional play in the façade takes away the building's depths and lends the project a certain effortlessness through the symbolism of ornamentation.
